Quick Gems – How to be HAPPY :)


Here’s an experiment for you – How happy would you be when you are placed in either of the below scenarios?…
Scenario 1: You earn $60k and get a $10k increase.
Scenario 2: You earn $60k and get a $10k increase, but your peer gets a $20k increase!
Most people would be happy in Scenario 1, but may get really unhappy in Scenario 2!…Why? Economically both scenarios are exactly the same for you. This shows that happiness is a subjective state of mind, and not due to our experiences of external factors! The good news is that we can train our minds to be happy.

Training your brain to be positive is not so different from training your muscles at the gym. Recent research on neuroplasticity (the ability of the brain to change even in adulthood) reveals that as you develop new habits, you rewire your brain.

Engaging in one brief positive exercise every day for as little as 3 weeks can have a lasting impact. Here are some IMMEDIATE activities you can do to inject an quick dose of happiness:

  • Jot down 3 things you grateful for.
  • Write a positive message to someone in your peer network (takes 3 mins).
  • Find a quiet space and meditate for 3 minutes.

Other ideas you can accomplish during your day:

  • Exercise for 15 minutes (greatly boosts serotonin & dopamine levels to energise you!).
  • Before you sleep at night, spend a moment to reflect & journal the most meaningful experience of your past 24 hours (great way to end your day!).

You will almost immediately observe a change in state within yourself…
