POWER OF GOALS

2

Suppose you have all your eleven football players enthusiastically ready to play the game, all charged up, and then someone took the goal post away. What would happen to the game? There is nothing left. How do you keep score? How do you monitor your progress during the game? When would you know you have scored a goal? How do you know who won or lost the game?

Goals give you direct and immediate FEEDBACK on your performance. It tells you whether you are on or off-track, and how well you are doing. This helps you in monitoring your progress.

Goals keep you ACCOUNTABLE to your mission. It provides interim check-points so you can evaluate and re-strategize if you need to, in order to arrive at your next milestone more effectively. It reminds you to keep up on your journey when you feel complacent, tired or discouraged, and provides a clear trajectory to your end goal.

Goals fuel MOTIVATION. Goals ignite a sense of competition, and help boost confidence and energy to bring you to your end destination. It provides rewards and incentives just like how runners cross the finish line and feel a sense of achievement. Without goals, a race becomes a drudgery.

Finally, goals give you DIRECTION. You become ‘alive’ because you are not just ‘living’, but have a sense of purpose and mission. Your life is significant because now there’s meaning to it. You wake up every morning in anticipation to what new terrain your adventure will take you.

Start planning out your goals today. With each goal set and achieved, you grow into your greatness!…Glenn Lim
